Sumitomo (SHI) Demag’s El-Exis SP (Speed-Performance) is the ultra-high-speed hybrid series of injection molding machines that redefines high productivity for packaging and other thin-wall applications requiring high injection speeds, ultra-fast cycling and exceptional precision.

Available in model sizes from 169 to 1124 U.S. tons, the El-Exis SP has been designed for high-speed production of applications such as thin-wall food packaging, closures for beverages, cartridges, plant pots and buckets. Taking a “best of both worlds” approach to injection molding, the hybrid series combines speed and performance with:

  • Ultra-high-speed injection via hydraulic accumulator and servo-valve
  • Energy-efficient electric screw drive for maximum plasticizing capacity and melt homogeneity, and a clamping unit with AC servo drive and hydrostatic transmission for fast, energy-efficient mold open/close

Some of the design improvements for the Speed-Performance series include:

  • Up to 30% more energy-efficient operation than other high-speed hybrid designs
  • 30% increase in injection speed over predecessor El-Exis S model, achieving up to 1000 mm/sec dependent on configuration
  • 25 millisecond acceleration from 0 to an injection speed of 800 mm/s
  • A position-regulated servo valve in combination with a high-resolution path measuring system that supports precise and rapid deceleration
  • Expanded opening stroke for models 330 U.S. tons and above to meet requirements for molding deeper containers such as buckets
  • The NC5 plus control which has been redesigned with unique functions for high-speed operation and optimization of energy use

El-Exis SP Caps Molding Demo 

Sumitomo (SHI) Demag El-Exis SP ultra-high-speed hybrid injection molding machine molding 29/25 still water (non-carbonated) caps with tamper evident band molded by mechanical slides. Cap is HDPE and weighs 1.2 grams. In this demo, 96 caps are being molded every 1.849 seconds.

El-Exis SP 200 IML Packaging Molding on 1.78-Second Cycle

In this molding demo, an El-Exis SP 200-920 high-speed injection molding machine molds four, thin-wall containers with in-mold decorating on a 1.78-second cycle. The PP containers have a 0.32 mm wall thickness and measure 83 x 32 mm.

El-Exis SP 420 Injection Compression Packaging Molding Demo

In this molding demo, an El-Exis SP 420-3000 hybrid injection molding machine molds thin-wall containers on a 3.51-second cycle. Using injection compression can result in material savings of up to 25%. In this example, the parts weigh 23 grams versus approximately 31 grams with standard molding. The PP containers are run in a 2 + 2 stack mold.

El-Exis SP 200-920 In-mold Labeling Demonstration

Sumitomo (SHI) Demag El-Exis SP 200-920 hybrid injection molding machine demonstrating in-mold labeling. This demo is a full in-mold-labeling cell that features complete coverage of the plastic surface using a unique process developed by Marbach molds and automation GmbH. The Marbach-developed process uses a “full cover label placer” that inserts the banner and base label in a single stroke.

El-Exis SP 420-3000 Molding 96 Water Caps on 1.889-Second Cycle

Sumitomo (SHI) Demag’s energy-efficient hybrid El-Exis SP 420-3000 injection molding machine demonstrates ultra-high-speed molding of water bottle caps. Demonstration shows Plastisud 96-cavity cap mold being run on a 1.889 second cycle.

NC5 Plus Control

Sumitomo (SHI) Demag’s NC5 plus control is an easy-to-use controller that helps molders achieve exceptional injection molding precision.

The control plays a key role as the communications interface between the user and an injection molding machine. Only the control allows for access to the full range of performance attributes of the machine and thus all the ways in which it can help maximize production efficiency.

NC5 plus Advantages

  • Easy to use and quick familiarization with the NC5 plus operating interface
  • Clear screen designs, clear arrangement of the soft keys and fading out of functions not being used shorten the set-up and optimization times
